I think it's almost exactly the Better Homes & Gardens red plaid cover 1982 version we were given as brides along with the cookbooks of friends recipes that my Grandmother did for my mom, and my mom for me. I don't remember the chile sauce but i lived in the country so I probably just never had that in the larder. I added a can of black beans to mine, usually another pepper and it gets better with age. The black beans look nice because the chile powder does give it a darker color. Haven't tried brown rice, will do this today but maybe like 20%. They are a lot like my mothers', only mine are more simple.
I put the cooked yolks in a bowl with Miracle Whip, mustard, finely diced sweet gherkins, onion that is diced tiny (really almost just scraped, ) a bit of salt and maybe pepper. Mash, mash until you like the mixture's consistency. Taste and add a bit of pickle juice if not right.Don't get it too runny. Should be able to heap. Put paprika on top, if desired, for color.
These are a bit more subtle. Taste as you go. Miracle whip and mustard are important.
Can use pickle relish but I like to chop mine.
Thanks!JVnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30994666.post-39031097784201251652014-09-06T14:39:42.078-05:002014-09-06T14:39:42.078-05:00

I had all but the jalapeno on hand, and picked one up on the way home this afternoon. We just ate, and I wanted to give some feedback - delicious. Really, really good. And it could not have been easier. And forgiving too - there's no reason you can't throw this together in a few minutes and let it sit almost indefinitely until you're ready to eat. BTW I used 1.5 tablespoons of cumin and a shot of oregano, but that's just me. Over all, a great and simple recipe using standard pantry items. I really appreciate the easy instructions and the way the steps are paced to turn out so good with such little effort and little time. Refreshingly well developed recipe. This is just plain good and perfect for our busy schedule and my thirst for quick, affordable, tasty, and healthy things. Thanks for putting this recipe together and publishing it, and I look forward to reviewing your others.

Cheers.

p.s. I put some grated cheese on top like the chef did, and mine looked exactly like the picture. I don't think it's the wrong picture at all, as other commenters mentioned. And BTW, a little cheese on top goes perfectly.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30994666.post-46271437700188598882011-12-31T15:38:16.575-06:002011-12-31T15:38:16.575-06:00Yummy! that does look good!
